A Different Actually: Philippians 1:12

"Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel."

- Philippians 1:12

Painful things happened to Paul. He was imprisoned and wrapped in chains. But he saw past the painful things that actually happened to something else ... a different "actually."

When painful things happen in our lives, we face two temptations: to pretend the painful things never actually happened or to treat our pain as if it's actually our only reality.

But what if God is doing something more? What if God is actually transforming you in the midst of your pain? What if he's having an effect on the lives of people around you as they witness you walk through your dark valley?

Take a moment right now and reflect on a painful experience you endured.

What else was God actually doing during your experience?

How does an awareness of God's activity during our pain shape the way we experience painful circumstances?

For further response, listen to "Beautiful Things" by Michael Gungor (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1spkhp41ig4) and ask the Lord, "What beautiful things are you making out of my life?"
