A Magnificent Collision

Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money.
- Acts 3:2-3

Yesterday, we looked at Peter and John going about their day. Today we meet another character (or set of characters) going about his ordinary day.

This man had never walked a day in his life. When all of the other kids jumped and ran and cartwheeled, he sat outside of the action. As an adult, he found no other way to work than to ask strangers for money. His friends or family positioned him in a prime location – outside this place where all the religious people gather – and, as far as we can tell, left him.

The generous worshippers passed him by. Some gave. Others didn’t. He compensated for low response rates by working hard to show up every day. He’d sit in the hot sun or catch some shade from the Beautiful Gate. And he’d ask and ask and ask for money.

We’re about to witness a collision here, a collision between this man’s persistent requests for help and the representatives of a good God who gives us beyond anything we can ask or imagine. The lame man asked for money. He would receive so much more.

Who do you know who’s scrapping hard and barely scraping by? What do you think it would look like for God to give them more than they could ask or imagine? Take a moment today to ask God to demonstrate his generosity to the person who comes to your mind.
