A Prayer for Easter Joy
The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.
- John 20:20b
Overjoyed.
Let that word roll around in your mind. Overjoyed. What images float to mind? A dog wagging his tail. A child riding a bike downhill. A woman receiving a much-anticipated proposal. An athlete taking in the reality that they just hit the game-winning shot. What do you picture?
The disciples responded with joy when they saw Jesus. They didn’t expect to see him. They weren’t prepared. They had settled for a night of closed and locked doors. Jesus surprised them. And they were delighted.
Would you join us in prayer that we would have encounters with Jesus on Easter Sunday? We’re hoping that each of us and everyone who visits a church would have a meaningful moment with Jesus this weekend. We want to experience that joy.
Here’s a sample of a prayer you could pray …
Jesus,
Would you help us to connect with you in a special way this Easter?
Please give us deep, true, lasting joy.
And please include our friends, neighbors, and family members.
Don’t let anyone miss your joy.
Amen.
