And all who join them

Because of everything written in this letter and because of what they had seen and what had happened to them, the Jews took it on themselves to establish the custom that they and their descendants and all who join them should without fail observe these two days every year, in the way prescribed and at the time appointed.
- from Esther 9:26-27

One of the fun things that we can do with these Connect Devotionals is to pause and pay close attention to words or phrases that catch our attention and will help you.

Today, the phrase “and all who join them” caught our attention.

The festival of Purim is celebrated by Jews around the world. It’s a meaningful, community-wide celebration. But celebrations like these always tend to spill over beyond the immediate community.

Non-Jews and outsiders were invited to celebrate as well. And this is a pattern that’s repeated in many of the biblical festivals and even into our own culture. We feel tremendous freedom and joy to invite friends and family to join us for Christmas Eve and for Easter.

This afternoon, we’ll be sending out a video inviting folks to join us for our Chatham Serves celebration. We think that serving together is one of the most meaningful ways to mark God’s goodness and generosity toward us.

Who will you invite? Take a minute and think to see if there are a few friends or neighbors to whom you can forward the invitation email you’ll get this afternoon
