Be Reconciled to God

We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.
- from 2 Corinthians 5:20

Don’t let anything stand between you and God.

Try to see if you can picture it. What is it? What is it that attempts to stand between you and God?

We all have something. Some of us have many somethings that try to get between us and God. Maybe it’s a misplaced priority. Maybe it’s an unhealthy relationship. Maybe it’s a past misdeed or one that we want to keep the door open for in the future. Maybe it’s that thing someone said to you or did to you. What is it?

Once the spotlight hits that thing that would stand between you and God, it begins to shrink and shrivel immediately. Those kinds of things gain their power by being ignored and swept under the rug. You could be tempted to roll your eyes at it and move on, but don’t.

Be reconciled to God. Choose actively to embrace God. Say “No” to that thing that would stand between you and God and say “Yes” to Jesus.

For some of us that looks like embarking on a path of intentional spiritual growth. For others that looks like actively joining Jesus in his mission by finding a place to serve. For still others of us, that looks like pausing in our flurry of activity to practice some Spirit-guided self-examination.

Being reconciled to God is both a once-for-all-time kind of thing and an every-day-I-live-and-breathe kind of thing. If you’ve never been reconciled to God, reach out to him today (we’ll show you how below). If you’ve been walking closely with God for years, make a fresh effort to have a healthy relationship. Great relationships don’t just happen on accident. They take time and attention.

Try praying a prayer like this:
Father, I want a close relationship with you. Please remove everything that would stand between me and you. I trust Jesus to save me and lead me through life. Guide me along the path you want me to walk to experience a deeper connection with you. Amen.
