Come to your senses

When he came to his senses …
- from Luke 15:17

We regularly receive “come to our senses” moments. Caught up in our own sin or our own busyness or drama, we need something to jar us out of our pattern of behavior.

Perhaps this very moment is a “come to your senses” moment for you.

The younger son in Jesus’ parable slipped and slid from one compromise to another until he found himself in a miserable situation.

Where do you see yourself slipping and sliding?
Where do you have less compassion than you used to?
Where do you have less patience than you used to?
Where do you have less love than you used to?
Where do you see yourself compromising?

The younger son in Jesus’ parable expended tremendous effort trying to fix his problems on his own as they came at him one after the other.

Where are you reaching the limits of your own resources?
Where do you find yourself isolated?
Where do you find yourself hiding?
Where do you find yourself longing for escape?
Where are you needing help?

The younger son came to his senses. We don’t know what triggered that for him or how it happened. All we know is that he finally decided that something needed to change.

What needs to change in your life?
What can you do today to make a change?
What is God’s invitation to you in the midst of your need?
