Generosity and trust

Do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them.
- Luke 12:29-30

We have a good, good Father who loves us and cares for us and takes good care of us. When Jesus challenges his followers and friends to live generous lives, he does so knowing that they live under the watchful eye of their generous, heavenly Father.

You can’t separate generosity and trust.

Left on our own, we would have to chase after our next meal. Fueled by insecurity, we wouldn’t have any other choice. But God’s presence changes the demands that are placed on us. We can hustle without desperation. We can have drive without putting our identities on the line. We can work hard without caving in to worry.

When Jesus teaches about generosity he always has his heavenly Father in his field of vision. We know what generosity is because we have a generous God. We live generous lives because God has showered us with generosity. We come by generosity honestly.

Take a few minutes today to worship and give thanks to your generous Father.
