Just Ask
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
- Mark 11:24
“Just ask” we hear. But it isn’t always that easy. Surely there’s got to be more to it than that.
When it comes to praying prayers of supplication – asking God to heal, to provide, to comfort, to punish, to intervene, etc. – we can psych ourselves out of asking.
Maybe you’ve done this. We try to figure out how it all works. God knows everything and has plans for the universe. He already knows what we need. He already has plans for us. Can he even accommodate our requests? How would that even work?
These are very good questions and the two of us are experts at having these conversations in our heads.
But we have good news for you. God invites us to ask. Instead of tripping over ourselves and our questions and talking to ourselves, he invites us to talk to him. He invites us to talk to him without giving us the all the answers as to how or why it works. He simply says “ask me.”
Between your computer, your cellphone, your spouse, your child or your car you’re already deeply attached to something that you have no idea how it works. That doesn’t keep you from using it or loving them.
Don’t let not knowing keep you from asking.
Take a risk and ask.
