Positioned Perfectly

The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live.

- Exodus 1:17

Today’s passage features unlikely heroes, positioned perfectly.

Pharaoh’s fear of the Israelites had grown so great that he commanded that the midwives kill any male children born into Hebrew families. Fear brought out the worst in Pharaoh.

But today’s passage tells us that the midwives feared someone even more than they feared Pharaoh. Their fear-awe-respect of God kept them from committing this violent act. They played off of Pharaoh’s latent prejudice (v. 19) and saved a generation of young men.

God’s saving didn’t come through military power or through political power. God chose unlikely saviors, a pair of midwives. He positioned them perfectly and they acted faithfully.

God’s perfect positioning of unlikely heroes in quiet places of unlikely influence is one of the signature ways that God loves to work. These two women are perfectly positioned at an unexpectedly critical inflection point to change the course of history as they help preserve a nation. And they act with courage and faith.

Look at the story of Nehemiah or Gideon or David or Esther or even Jesus and you’ll see the delightful surprise that God brings salvation in unlikely ways and through unlikely people.

We believe that God has positioned you in the place where you are right now, that he’s done this for a particular purpose. Are you open to being surprised today? Are you ready to act faithfully should a surprising window open for you to do a work that might, in some small way, be an inflection point that in the power of God literally changes the course of human history?

Who knows, perhaps God plans to do some unlikely saving through you?

How has God placed and positioned you to aid in the deliverance of people he cares about?

God led me to NC and my daughter wanted me to move here to be near her as I grew older. It has been very difficult for us both but I believe that finding CCC was definitely Gods plan. I believe that he is using me to help !y daughter to seek Jesus...the relationship. I love my daughter and pray for her to find a way to trust him...and for her to be delivered from anxiety.

Love, love, LOVE this reminder!!! Though I'm so ready to move to my next phase of life, I cannot deny that God is fully capable of making that happen and He is choosing not to... Must be a "greater YES!" in here somewhere. ;-D
