Remember the Poor

All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I had been eager to do all along.

- Galatians 2:10

In today's passage, Paul writes about a meeting he had with the first Apostles. He met with them to defend his work with the non-Jews (the Gentiles), which was a radical ministry context for his time. At the end of the meeting, these church leaders bless Paul and then we get this line that we're looking at today.

As they bless Paul to carry the core gospel message into uncharted territory, the one application they make is to ask him to continue to remember the poor. And for the past two thousands years, this has always been a mark of the church. The church has a special concern for the poor, the marginalized, the sick, the orphaned and the lonely.

For some of us, we don't spend a lot of time with people on the margins or folks who are poor. We need help to remember those who have needs they can't meet out of their own resources. This is part of what Chatham Serves helps us to do.

Take some time today to increase your awareness about those we're going to be serving this weekend. Go to www.chathamserves.org and find the names of the organizations we'll be serving alongside this weekend. Look them up and learn about what they do. Take a moment to pray for their work in our community. And if you haven't signed up for a project yet, please do.
