Resurrection belief and resurrection power

I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection ...

- from Philippians 3:10

Knowing "the power of his resurrection" means both believing in his resurrection and experiencing resurrection power in your life and relationships.

For some of us, there is a gap between these two kinds of knowing.

Some of us believe the story about Jesus' resurrection but don't experience his transforming power in our lives. Others of us experience his power as we participate in wonderful, loving, transformed communities (like your Small Group or Christian family), but just can't bring ourselves to believe the resurrection story.

What would it look like to keep growing in your knowing?

If you believe the story but don't experience his power, perhaps you need to take a risk and place yourself in a position where you need him to come through for you. The American Dream encourages us to organize our lives in such a way that we don't actually need the power of Jesus' resurrection to do much of anything.

So today: pray. Then risk. Seek reconciliation. Engage in mission. Attack a problem that's bigger than you. Ask and then follow his lead, putting yourself in a place where you need Jesus' resurrection power.

If you experience his power in community but don't believe the story about his resurrection, perhaps you need to lean into your community a little more deeply.

This week, grab a Small Group leader or an elder and ask them to meet with you. Ask them to share why they believe in Jesus' resurrection. Listen and don't debate.

Go home and reflect on what you heard. Try praying a version of the prayer that has changed millions of lives: "Lord, if you're there and if this is true, then I'm ready to believe. Please give me eyes to see and ears to hear and then show me yourself and the power of your resurrection."

Which of those two challenges do you need to take on today?
