Take a life inventory

Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup.
- 1 Corinthians 11:28

In his letter to the wayward church in Corinth, Paul encouraged his friends to practice self-examination even as they engaged in worship. As we enter into the summer-time and approach the end of our “church year,” we want to encourage you to go and do likewise.

The mid-point of the year is a great time to step back and evaluate where you are and how you’re doing. It’s maybe even better than December/January, since there are fewer distractions and maybe a little more breathing room to make changes during the summer.

Over the course of this week, we’ll engage in a course of spiritual self-examination. Guided by scripture and the Holy Spirit, we can encounter God in these moments of examination.

Today, we’d encourage you to take a life inventory.

Take a few minutes to reflect. Think over the last month. Ask yourself: “How are things with my _____________?”

  • Health
  • Sleep
  • Eating
  • Exercise
  • Finances
  • Relationships
  • Recreation
  • Emotions
  • Spiritual life

Ask him to help you see how he’s been at work in these areas of your life over the last month. Ask the Lord if there’s any area he wants you to be paying more attention to in this season.
