The Day that David Danced

2

Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets.
- 2 Samuel 6:14-15

This Sunday, we’re doing our year-end celebration and volunteer appreciation. We have so much to celebrate and so many people to appreciate!

The passage we’re reflecting on this morning comes at a very pivotal moment in David’s life and in the establishment of the kingdom of Israel. Years and years before this moment, God promised David that he would be king. But the time between the promise and its fulfillment was long and filled with confusion and pain.

We don’t see all of that in this moment. In this moment, we see King David dancing with all his might before the ark of the Lord – the symbol of the Lord’s presence – as the ark is brought up the mountain to Jerusalem. The passion that filled David’s dance in this moment was fueled by the decades-long journey that led up to it and the anticipation of what the future would look like with God fully present.

Would that our celebrations came with the same passion!

You’ve got a story—likely filled with ups and downs, just like David. As we come to the close of a school year, fueled by the history that leads into this moment and filled with the hope for what comes ahead, we can throw all of our might into celebrating.

Think over your last year. What is worth celebrating? Do a little dance. Throw up a fist pump. Let loose a celebratory “whoop!” We won’t judge you.

Last summer I spent in the hospital....this summer I am well and enjoying healing! Also I am celebrating no more horrible back pain after special prayers in January!

Ah...the bittersweet moment when we look forward to new teachings, but say goodbye to the Creed. I confess, I thought the Creed would be an opportunity for me to nap with my eyes open on Sundays, but it has been rich beyond measure...and not just the forgiveness part! Thank you guys for your faithful service to us through God. Blessings!!
