The Lord My Shelter: Philippians 2:1

2

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,

- Philippians 2:1

Paul's understanding of union with Christ spills over into all sorts of other things: encouragement, comfort, sharing in the Spirit, tenderness and compassion. So much flows out of this one fountain.

One of the applications we're invited to experience: union with Christ means a certain type of safety.

Picture yourself living in a strong tower. Secure. From that place of security, you can welcome the weary and wounded. You can take risks, knowing you have a safe place of retreat. You can rest and heal.

The safety Christ provides doesn't mean that we'll never be wounded or that we'll never experience pain.  But it does mean that our pain and woundedness don't have the last word on us.  Jesus does.

How will you make use of the shelter Christ provides today?

The Bible is full of this image of the Lord as a shelter in a world full of danger. As a devotional exercise, you can slowly read one of the following Psalms and ask the Lord to help you enjoy his sheltering protection today: Psalm 18, Psalm 46, or Psalm 91.

Lately I have been experiencing a lot of peace. There are some important issues that I have no control over and my spiritual ears hear Jesus saying "Trust me...and stay close in My flock and don't wander off..." I guess I feel like I am in the shelter of His flock.

Amen....as Jesus told us, everything is predicated on denying self...unless we lose self we cannot be His disciple, and unless we are His disciple we will never enjoy a calm within any storm....we will merely respond to the fears of our flesh, like everyone else who is not one with Jesus.

All praise and glory to the One who makes all things new, when we choose to make our life all about Him....Jesus is the only way, the only truth, and the only life.
