The Most Controversial Figure

Jesus is the most controversial figure in all of history.

Over the next few weeks, we’re going to be looking at who he is and why he’s so controversial. And we’ll discover that we aren’t the first ones to try to figure out who he is or to wrestle with the controversy that seems to swirl around him.

We’ll be studying the second half of John 6 and all of John 7 this month.

At this point in John’s gospel, Jesus has just performed a tremendous miracle. He fed 5,000 men with just a few loaves of bread and a few fish. What more could a man with that kind of power do for a nation trapped under the oppressive thumb of the Roman Empire?

That night, he walked on a stormy sea.

The next day, the crowds came looking for him and sat under his teaching. And that’s when the questions and the controversy started.
