Trust and Guidance

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,

    and he will make your paths straight.
- Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust precedes guidance. As we grow to trust the Lord more and more, he gives us more and more direction.

Trust and guidance go hand-in-hand. As we trust the Lord and receive guidance from him we discover that his guidance is good. We enjoy the places he takes us. “He makes me lie down in green pastures,” the psalmist said.

There’s a beautiful dance happening here with the Lord leading and us following. We place our hand in his, entrusting him to lead, and then he walks us step but swirling step into a marvelous movement.

There’s an awesome game happening here with the Lord quarterbacking and us running the routes. He drops back into the pocket as we run the fly route he called and, before we know it, we’re standing in the end-zone holding the ball.

People fear entrusting themselves to the Lord. They wonder where he’ll take them and whether the places they’ll go will make them say “Oh” or “Oh no!” Until you’re convinced that the Lord is a trustworthy leader, you’ll have a hard time following him. And maybe that’s the case for people you care about who’ve been struggling to follow the Lord. Maybe their struggle isn’t with guidance; maybe their struggle is with trust.

Take some time today to pray that the people you care about would be empowered by the Lord to place more and more trust in the Lord.
